My name is Renate. Some of you know me as Renate the photographer, some as Renate, the mum with four kids. Or Renate, the one who went on a sailing trip for 7 months from England to Greece with a 3 and 2 year old (crazeee), or maybe Renate the physio and pilates teacher. Maybe even Renate, who once ate white chocolate mud cake for breakfast (this is true) ….
The photography journey is similiar. I get calls all the time asking this question. “I see all your beautiful dance photos…do you still photograph families?” The answer is YES. When I photograph a ballerina in Sydney, I am “the dance photographer”. A family at sunrise at a beautiful beach on the Northern Beaches, “the family photographer.” The adorable squishy newborns ? “The newborn photographer”. An corporate B2B marketing leaders forum event – I am “the business photographer”. I get several calls a month asking: “I see all your beautiful dance photos, do you still photograph families?”
Photographers are 0ften encouraged to pick a niche. I have chosen “photography” as my niche. Because I love documenting every journey, because I would love real time memory keeping, because I love meeting people in different walks of life. I photograph dancers, families, newborns and all things business and will continue to do so.
This quote sums it up:
“Photography is the art of frozen time…the ability to store emotion and feelings within a frame.” This works the same for dancers, families, newborns and business.
It is also the same for me – the photographer, the mum of 4, the sailor, the physio, the pilates instructor…who knows what else I can become in a lifetime…
